County Roadwork Update In Mountain's Edge Area


The following is the update provided by the County: Planned Projects


Pave additional northbound lane at Buffalo and Mountain’s Edge Parkway – Anticipate work to be underway by end of Nov/Dec 2014.

Light at Buffalo and Mountain’s Edge Parkway – On the design list with construction 2015 but right-of-way needs on the southeast corner may delay construction. Anticipate advertising for construction late summer/fall 2015 if the right-of-way is acquired in time.

Cactus 6 lanes west from Jones to Rainbow – Construction of 4 lanes on Cactus Ave, Rainbow to Verona Wood (bridge over Union Pacific Railroad) – substantial completion December 2014. Traffic signal at Cactus and Jones anticipate advertising for construction October 2014.

4.      Pave Rainbow south from Cactus to Erie – Work included with Cactus/Union Pacific Railroad project. Substantial completion December 2014

5.      Pedestrian Crossing at Buffalo and Gomer near park – Plans are 60% and project will include pedestrian activated flasher and median modifications to allow left turns into Exploration Park. It is anticipated to advertise for construction Jan/Feb 2015.

6.      Transition travel lanes on Gomer between Durango and Buffalo to bike/park lanes – County will review removing a travel lane to provide bicycle/parking lane with buffer.

7.      Pave additional northbound lane at Durango and Blue Diamond 1 thru lane, 1 right turn lane – The County will apply for NDOT permit to do the work, construction schedule dependent on approved permit but is scheduled to start end of Oct/Nov 2014. Plan is to pave 2 additional lanes for a total of 4 lanes: 1 left, 2 thru, 1 right turn only.

8.     Pave Durango 6 lanes north of Blue Diamond to 215 – (SID) Construct Durango Drive to 4 thru lanes between Blue Diamond and Windmill. Anticipate advertising for construction Fall of 2015.

9.      Pave Rainbow north from Cactus to Blue Diamond – Anticipate advertising for construction spring/summer of 2015.

10. Light proposed for Blue Diamond and El Capitan- A traffic study is being conducted by NDOT. 

11.   Light proposed at Blue Diamond and Fort Apache – Following up with NDOT on outcome of traffic study and design/construction schedule.

·           There are no plans at this time to connect Fort Apache Road and Blue Diamond South.

·         “Complete streets”) on Cactus Bridge – There will be sidewalks and the County is reviewing a striping plan to include a shoulder line that bicyclists may use (3-ft law). Bike/Pedestrian Bridge planned at Erie Avenue over UPRR-est 2016-2017

·         Request for review of traffic signal coordination on Blue Diamond during AM/PM peaks – The issue has been referred to the Regional Transportation Commission.

·         For parents transporting students to Tarkanian Middle School –The County is paving Lindell between Pyle and Frias to provide additional access to Cactus Avenue.

·         The commercial area on the corner of Blue Diamond and Buffalo is in escrow. If all goes as planned, construction may start as early as first quarter 2015.
